Finca El Arca is located in the heart of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, the world highest coastal range. The Caribbean, with its dreamlike, trimmed coconut beaches is 14km away, the glaciers of Pico Cristobal Colon (5776m) and Pico Simon Bolivar (5775m) 35 km. This leads to an exeptionally biodiversity: palm trees, cacti and tropical dry forest on the northern border along the coast and tropical rainforest, treeless plains and snow-capped mountain peaks in the interior. 628 species of birds live here, anteaters, white-bellied spider monkeys, white-lipped peccaries and red howler monkeys are among the 120 species of mammals that roam the Sierra Nevada, along with elusive cats such as the jaguar and the puma. The Sierra Nevada is also home to 46 species of amphibians and reptiles and boasts more than 3,000 plant species.
El Arca lies 700 meters above sea level, the climate is ideal, we have the eternal summer here with temperatures usually around 25-30 degrees at night to 18 degrees. We are a short distance outside the village Minca. Close enough to enjoy the amenities of the village – which has to offer a variety of restaurants and a glimpse into the Colombian way of life. And far enough to enjoy nature undisturbed.
Here on our Finca we live in harmony with nature. A large part of the area we have planted with native fruit trees, including tamarind, citrus, Zapote, Nispero, star fruit, mango, avocado, coconut, guava, custard-apple, rose apple. We grow coffee for our own use, as well as cocoa, banana, vegetables and herbs. And of course, all organic that is, without any pesticides, artificial fertilizers etc.
Our pond attracts amphibians and herons.
Come and visit us and enjoy this magical piece of earth.
